Fourth District lawmakers invite citizens to join telephone town hall, Feb. 19

As the Legislature makes its way through the remaining half of the scheduled 60-day session, 4th District lawmakers Rep. Matt Shea, Rep. Leonard Christian and Sen. Mike Padden, all R-Spokane Valley, say it’s an important time to hear from citizens. They have scheduled a telephone town hall meeting for Wednesday, Feb. 19, and citizens from across the 4th District are invited to call in and be heard.

“Olympia and the Spokane Valley are more than 300 miles apart. So it is very difficult during a legislative session to get home and meet with people. However, this telephone town hall meeting allows us to have a conversation with hundreds of people throughout the district at once. We save taxpayers’ money, and the best part about it is they don’t have to leave their homes to participate,” said Shea.

“Hearing from our constituents helps us serve you better,” said Christian.  “As a newcomer to the state House, I am eager to field your questions and hear your thoughts and suggestions.”

“Because we serve such a large area, this is a great way to bring people together in a way that wouldn’t be possible otherwise – from Mount Spokane and Newman Lake, to Liberty Lake and over to Spokane Valley, as well as all the communities in between. I’m looking forward to a very helpful discussion,” added Padden.

A telephone town hall meeting is conducted much like a radio talk show. People who call may press the “star” key ( * ) on their telephone keypads to ask a question.  They also have the opportunity to vote over the telephone on survey questions.

The event will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. People who would like to participate may call toll-free: 1-800-757-3703.
