Local teen serves as legislative page for Rep. Shea

Whitney Marshall, a 15-year-old home-schooled student from Otis Orchards, recently served as a page in the Washington House of Representatives. She was sponsored by Rep. Matt Shea, R-Spokane Valley.

During her week in Olympia, Whitney was responsible for delivering documents and messages to legislators’ offices and to their desks on the House floor. She also continued her studies through the Legislative Page School, learning about state government and the process of making laws.

The page program has been in existence since 1891. To serve as a page for the Washington House of Representatives, a student must:

  • Have permission from a parent or guardian;
  • Have permission from school;
  • Be sponsored by a current member of the House of Representatives; and
  • Be at least 14 years of age and not have reached his or her 17th birthday.

Whitney is the daughter of Allan and Lucinda Marshall, Otis Orchards.
