Statements from 4th District legislators on former Sen. Bob McCaslin’s passing

In memory of former Sen. Bob McCaslin, who died Sunday, 4th District legislators have issued the following statements:

Rep. Larry Crouse

“What a pleasure it was to serve by his side in the Legislature for all these years.  Bob was a man who spoke his mind and energetically fought for his constituents in the Fourth Legislative District.  His sage advice, comedic wit and engaging smile will be missed. The region lost a civic champion this weekend; many of us lost a friend.”

Rep. Matt Shea

“This is a very sad day for the state of Washington and the end of an era. Senator McCaslin demonstrated exceptional dedication to our district. He was known for his smile and a great sense of humor. We are all tremendously grateful for his many years of service in the Legislature and the personal sacrifice of his family that made it all possible. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them. He will be sorely missed.”

Sen. Jeff Baxter

“Senator McCaslin was kind, warm and gracious, with a sense of humor that was always just what was needed. He believed in protecting the citizens of our district, fighting with passion and humor for those things he cared most about — education, public safety and the ability of young people to own a home. Senator McCaslin could be tough, but he always treated people with respect. His commitment to this community always came first, and you always knew exactly where you stood with him. His leadership, humor, and his spirit will never be gone from the Spokane Valley or the state Senate, but will remain in the thoughts and hearts of all those who came to love and admire this good man.”

McCaslin was one of the longest-serving members of the state Legislature, having been first elected in 1980. He resigned his Senate seat in January due to ill health.
