Rep. Shea to hold telephone town hall meeting June 23
Rep. Matt Shea is inviting citizens in the 4th Legislative District to join him Monday, June 23, for a telephone town hall meeting. The district-wide phone conference is conducted much like a radio talk show. People who call may press the “star” key ( * ) on their telephone keypads to ask a question. They also have the opportunity to vote over the telephone on survey questions.
“One of the most important parts of my job as a state representative is listening to the people I serve, hearing their concerns and answering their questions. A telephone town hall meeting allows me to reach out and have a conversation with hundreds of people across the district,” said Shea, R-Spokane Valley. “It is a great way to communicate with citizens and it is convenient because they don't have to leave their homes to participate in their government.”
During the meeting, Shea will provide an update of his pro-business, pro-jobs “Freedom Agenda” bills, several of which became effective June 12. He will also talk about transportation reforms he authored and co-sponsored as an alternative to a gas tax increase. In addition, Shea will discuss his work on creating strict accountability reforms for electronic home monitoring (EHM) in Washington. The EHM program has drawn the attention of a Seattle television station investigation, “Home Free,” which discovered offenders in the system are not being adequately monitored. Shea, who serves on the House Judiciary Committee, proposed to change that through House Bill 2543.
“There are a lot of issues to discuss. This telephone meeting gives me the opportunity to hear about those things on people's minds and act on their behalf,” added Shea.
The event will be held June 23 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. People who would like to participate may call toll-free: 1-800-759-5198.
